Pushing His Religion

It's good to see an upstanding person in the community, especially in the national spotlight, acknowledge the Lord at the greatest moment of his career. I hope he didn't break company policy by sharing his faith at work!

Jim Nantz of CBS Sports: This is one of those moments, Tony, where there is also social significance in this victory, and to have your hands on the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Tell me what this means to you right now.

Tony Dungy: I'll tell you what. I'm proud to be representing African-American coaches, to be the first African-American to win this. It means an awful lot to our country. But again, more than anything, I've said it before, Lovie Smith and I, not only the first two African-Americans, but Christian coaches showing that you can win doing it the Lord's way. And we're more proud of that.

End Days

I was watching National Geographic, and they had a program that was talking about the book of Revelation. Perhaps you saw it. One of the things that it reminded me of was that there are many churches, groups of people of all kinds of thoughts not just including the major religions. Now I know that the natural man cannot understand spiritual things, but why do so many groups of Christians believe different things, especially the cardinal doctrines. I have to do some looking around, but it was said on the program that the Vatican was putting together a formal statement that Hell would be empty at some point in the future. This was stated to give some ground to an apostate shepard on the program who is teaching Hell doesn't exist. I also liked the way it was described that only 'born agains' are getting caught up in the rapture rising like helium balloons. I can take it easier the swipe on born agains, but reading the Bible plainly, how can someone lead a church and teach that Hell is not real? This isn't the first time I've heard this(second hand), but it is the first time I actually heard it from a pastor first hand. That takes a lot of audacity. So, hear you have a man who is the pastor of a church & calls himself a Christian and knows extensively what the Bible says. They should have asked this pastor why did Jesus have to face the wrath of God for us? Clearly he doesn't have a clue that God is a God of justice. What do you think the percentage of the professing Christians today are actually saved? What am I willing to do to reach out to those that are clearly not saved and do I dare reach out to those who I'm not sure are saved yet profess to be? I pray that the Lord would help us to be able to discern and pickup our cross and stand in faith.

Judgment, Judgment, Judgment

Today's reading included Ezekiel chapter 23. My general impression: The sisters Samaria and Jerusalem committed adultery and worse with the Gentiles which if I remember right, they were commanded not to intermarry. They no longer gave God as the number one priority(any priority for that matter), and the result, they became selfish. They made themselves gods, and went after whatever the evil hearts desired. Many times in this chapter their sexual sin is described. This reminds of the Scripture Galatians 5:16,"I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh." Granted, the Old Testament believers did not have the indwelling of the Spirit, but I do believe that God would help a person if they desired to do right. But repeatedly God had warned them through the prophets of their evil ways, and allowed their neighbors to overtake them. I think it's scary that there is a certain point where you can cross a line and God decides to bring judgment. Looking into my past, I see clearly that God would have been well justified in judging me. I kind of think of it like being caught in a think, sticky, black pit with a view of the gates of Hell in sight. But God's mercy bore my sin, He did not execute judgment, but was long suffering towards me. So how am I different from the two sisters? The fact is, I am no different then the two sisters, and knowing much more about God's revelation to man on His redemption of man, I would say I am worse than a nonbeliever. So today, I'll remember God's sovereienghty to be kind and merciful towards me, and thus what my attitude should be towards my enemies.
